Blue Jays Secure First Landmark Sweep of the Season With Win Over River Hawks

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College baseball team scored 10 runs in the seventh and eighth inning to break open a tie game and top Susquehanna, 13-3, to complete the Landmark Conference series sweep.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 13-12 overall and 7-2 in the Landmark, while the River Hawks fall to 7-14 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Senior Robbie Bertucio finished the game 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman RJ Agriss went 1-3 with a team-high two RBI and senior Tyler McGonigle finished 1-3 with three runs scored and two walks.

Sophomore Kris Morrow paced the Susquehanna offense, hitting the first home run of the season at Kevin Scott Boyd stadium.

With the game tied at three heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Etown bats came alive. The damage came from Bertucio as the senior stepped in and knocked a sinfle through the left side, scoring graduate student Andrew Fisher from second to put the Blue Jays up 4-3.After taking advantage of a passed ball and a throwing error by the shortstop to score three more runs, Agriss completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left field, plating McGonigle and making the score 8-3 after seven.

Etown mirrored the inning in the eighth scoring five more runs and junior Zach Silfies slammed the door with a one, two, three inning in the ninth to complete the sweep with the 13-3 win.

Silfies (1-1) earned the win in relief, throwing a one-hitter over 4.1 innings with five strikeouts. Freshman Kyle Mulville started the game, allowing three earned runs on six hits and striking out two over 4.2 innings.
