Susquehanna takes down women's lacrosse on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Kate Ziegler led all scorers with six goals in her final home game on Wolf Field Saturday against Susquehanna while Megan Gress tied a season-high with four assists. The River Hawks took down the Blue Jays, 20-12.

Caroline Chase scored 25 seconds into the game to give Susquehanna (9-7, 2-4 Landmark) the lead. Ziegler recorded her first of the game and 51st of the season less than two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. The River Hawks would score four more times by the end of the first and led Elizabethtown (1-13, 0-5 Landmark) 5-1.

Gress connected with Ziegler for her first assist of the game to get a goal back for the Blue Jays less than a minute into the second quarter. Susquehanna would score five unanswered to take a commanding 10-2 lead midway through the period. Gress and Sam Deiaco each scored their 10th goals of the season, back-to-back, to make it a 10-4 game with 5:56 to go before halftime.

SUSQ led 14-6 at the break. Alayna Trynosky made 12 saves in the first half before Rachel Murphy took over in the second.

There were only three tallies in the third quarter, but they all belonged to the River Hawks, who led 17-6 after three.

Ziegler registered her first of three fourth-quarter goals earlyl in the period with her fourth of the game as Gress found her to make it 17-7. The Line Lexington, Pa. native would score her fifth minutes later.

Down 20-8, Etown finished the game on a 4-0 goal spurt started by Cressman, who got her 25th of the season and second of teh game with 4:05 remaining. A minute and a half later, she found Ziegler for her sixth and final goal of the contest. Cressman completed her hat trick with 42 seconds left and Cassidy Pawlicki recorded the first goal of her career, going end-to-end after Murphy saved a free position shot. Pawlicki grabbed the ground ball and dashed her way into the critical scoring area, fired left side, and found the netting for the goal with nine seconds remaining.

Murphy made seven saves in goal for Elizabethtown. Ziegler and Cressman tied for the team lead with six points each while Gress ended up with five (1g, 4a). Pawlicki had a team-high four ground balls and Deiaco snatched five draw controls.

The Blue Jays will play at Eastern on Wednesday, April 27, at 4 p.m.
