Moravian uses third quarter to pull away from women's lacrosse

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- In search of their first Landmark Conference win, the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team kept it close with Moravian Wednesday night until the Greyhounds began to pull away in the third quarter. Kate Ziegler had six goals for the Blue Jays, who trailed by only three at the half. Moravian went on to beat Etown 19-10 to remain unbeaten in the conference.

Alexis Patterson gave Elizabethtown (1-12, 0-5 Landmark) a 1-0 lead a few minutes into the game. It was a low scoring quarter with only three goals total. The Greyhounds grabbed the final two of the first to take a 2-1 lead into the second.

Moravian (8-6, 5-0 Landmark) scored three unanswered to begin the second and extend the scoring streak to five goals going back to the first. The Blue Jays answered as Ziegler notched her first-half hat trick over a seven-minute span to bring Etown back within a goal at 5-4 with a little under five minutes left in the half.

The Greyhounds outscored the Jays 3-1 over the final few minutes and took an 8-5 lead into the break.

Moravian broke open the game with a big third quarter as they were able to put up seven goals to just two for Elizabethtown. After Ziegler recorded her fourth of the night with 2:35 to go in the third, Emily Hoskin tallied with one second left to put her team up 15-7 with one period left to play.

Ziegler, Sam Deiaco, and Hannah Cressman each scored in the fourth for the Blue Jays. Alayna Trynosky finished the night with a season-high 15 saves in goal.
