HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Kate Ziegler recorded her second five-goal game in her last three contests for the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team on Friday at Juniata. Ziegler led the Blue Jays, but the Eagles won the game, 16-8.
Juniata (10-3, 2-2 Landmark) led 1-0 for nearly half the first quarter until
Hannah Cressman dished to Ziegler for her first of five with eight and a half left in the opening period of play.
The Eagles scored twice more before the first quarter was done and took a 3-1 lead into the second.
Juniata took control as they posted the first three goals to go ahead 6-1. Ziegler recorded her second of the day with 6:19 to go before half.
Megan Gress provided the assist as Elizabethtown (1-11, 0-4 Landmark) trailed 6-2 at halftime.
Ziegler notched a pair of goals in the third, one being a player up, 23 seconds apart that got the Jays within three, 9-6, with 7:24 remaining in the third. The Eagles, though, scored two to close out the quarter and led 11-6 after three.
Etown couldn't overcome the deficit as Juniata expanded its lead in the opening minutes to seven, 13-6. Cressman fed Ziegler and
Sam Deiaco for two goals later in the fourth, but the damage had been done and the Eagles handed the Jays the 16-8 loss.
Alayna Trynosky made 12 saves for Elizabethtown while
Rachel Murphy had six. Chloe Gerhard had 14 for the Eagles in goal.
The women's lacrosse team will play at Moravian on Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m.
