ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Freshman
Kyle Mulville threw his first career complete game to lead the Elizabethtown College baseball team to the 6-1 win against Drew Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 8-12 overall and 4-2 in the Landmark, while the Rangers fall to 3-16 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
Senior
Robbie Bertucio hit his first home run of the season, finishing the afternoon with two RBI. Sophomore
Garrett Schwartzbeck also finished with two RBI, going 2-5 with a run scored. Senior
Tyler McGonigle went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Junior Jake Welsh paced the Drew offense, going 1-3 with a home run.
After four scoreless innings to start the game, Etown got on the board in the top of the fifth. With one out, both McGonigle and sophomore
AJ Bednar walked to put runners on first and second. The two runners then stole second and third and then advanced one more base on a throwing error by the catcher to give the Blue Jays the 1-0 lead.Â
Tied at one going into the eighth, Etown moved in front for good. With two outs and a runner on first, Bertucio stepped in and blasted his first home run of the season over the left field wall to put the Blue Jays in front 3-1. Etown tacked on three more runs in the top of the ninth completing the team's second series win of the season with the 6-1 victory.
Mulville (3-0) remained undefeated on the season, going the distance and allowing one run on seven hits and striking out three. The freshman leads the Landmark with a 0.71 ERA.
Sophomore Jake Schoffelen (1-0) took the loss in relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits.
Elizabethtown is back in action on Tuesday, March 29 at Franklin & Marshall. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.Â
