Men's Volleyball Finishes Weekend with Win Over Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Elizabethtown College men's volleyball team won it second Continental Volleyball Conference match of the season, topping Eastern Mennonite, 3-1, Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 12-9 overall and 2-4 in league play, while the Royals fall to 2-13 on the season and 1-4 in the CVC.

Junior Blake Hildebrand registered his second career double-double, finishing with 11 kills and 11 digs while hitting .400. Classmate Steve Swain finished with a team-high 13 kills while sophomore Nate Seeger dished out 41 a match-high 41 assists. 

Junior Nate McGhee paced Eastern Mennonite, tallying a match-high 16 kills. 

After dropping the first set 25-20, Etown bounced back in the second set. Tied at five, the Blue Jays used a 6-2 run to move ahead 11-7. sophomore Nick Chapman highlighted the run with two kills. The Royals answered, and with Etown leading 13-8, the home team scored six consecutive points to move ahead 14-13. The two teams continued to battle but with the scored tied once again at 15, the Blue Jays went on a quick 3-0 run to take the lead one last time at 18-15 and then held on to take the second set 25-22 and knot the score at one.

Etown dominated from the jump in the second set, racing out to an 8-1 lead after a solo block by junior Tony Camillo. The Blue Jays would cruise through the rest of the set, hitting .409 as a squad on their way to the 25-15 third set victory.

In the fourth and final set, Etown held a one point advantage at 10-9 before grabbing hold of the momentum with a 5-0 run to move ahead 15-9. The Blue Jays used this burst to not allow Eastern Mennonite any closer than three points to take the fourth set 25-19 and earn the win 3-1.

Elizabethtown is back in action on Saturday, March 26 against Randolph-Macon and Neumann. Opening serve of the tri-match is set for 1 p.m against Randolph-Macon.
