BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's basketball battled back from a first half deficit but could not complete the comeback, falling to Moravian, 90-85, in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 7-12 overall and 2-7 in league play, while the Greyhounds improve to 9-11 on the season and 4-6 in the Landmark.Â
For the second consecutive games, junior
Dylan Rowe finished with a team-high 25 and seven rebounds. Senior
Jalin Robinson added 16 point and six rebounds, while fifth-year senior
Ryan Fitzpatrick and sophomore
Tyreke Herbert each scored 14.
Senior Danny Cooper led four different Moravian players in double figures with 29 points.Â
The Greyhounds held the momentum midway through the first half, running out to a seven point lead after freshman Nate Santiago made to from the free-throw line to make the score 20-13 with 13:14 remaining in the opening period. The Blue Jays battled back to cut the deficit to two (24-22) when freshman
Rance Russo was fouled on a three and made two-of-three from the line with 9:44 on the clock. However, the Greyhounds pushed their advantage to 10 at the break, taking a 49-39 led into the locker room.
The Blue Jays snatched back momentum, starting the second half on a 10-3 run to make the score 52-49 with 17:09 remaining in the game. Herbert had eight of his 14 points during the rally.Â
After Moravian increased its lead to 10 (71-61) again with 9:51 on the clock, the Blue Jays began to chip away. Using a 14-2 run, Etown took its first lead of the game since 2-0 at the 19:35 mark in the first half, moving ahead 75-73 with 6:16 remaining. The Blue Jays then increased its advantage to four under a minute later, as Fitzpatrick grabbed the offensive rebound and found Rowe for the layup and the 79-75 lead with 5:36 on the clock.
Moravian, however, took the momentum back after this basket, closing the game on a 15-6 run for its ninth victory of the season, 90-85.
Elizabethtown shot 4.32% (30-61) from the floor and knocked down 5-18 (27.8%) from three. The Greyhounds were 31-65 (47.7%) overall and shot 10-24 (41.7%) from three. Moravian found its advantage by turining 13 turnovers by the Blue Jays into 20 points.
The Blue Jays are right back to it tomorrow, hosting Catholic in Thompson Gymnasium. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
