Ziegler, offense roll for women's lacrosse in win at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. -- Kate Ziegler had a single-game career-high 11 points for the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team in their 19-9 win at Immaculata on Wednesday. Nearly outscoring the Mighty Macs herself, Ziegler tied for the sixth-most points in a game and tied for the ninth-most goals in a game. Hannah Cressman had her second consecutive game of seven points to start the season and Alayna Trynosky earned her first collegiate win in goal for the Blue Jays.

After neither side scored through the first five minutes of action, it was Ziegler's first of eight in the game that got it started. Anna Charitonchick found Ziegler for the tally. 15 seconds later, Kendall Ulmer made it 2-0 for Elizabethtown (1-1).

Immaculata (0-1) made it 2-1, but shortly thereafter, Etown scored five straight to end the first quarter. Ziegler (2), Madison Hennelly, Alexis Patterson, and Ulmer all recorded goals as the Jays took a 7-1 lead into the second.

The Mighty Macs drew closer after outscoring the Jays 4-2 in the second period and went into the half behind 9-5.

Elizabethtown restored order in the third as Cressman scored twice in a two-minute span on helpers from Megan Gress and Ziegler. Then, Cressman assisted on Ziegler's goal that made it 12-6 with 9:50 left in the third. Ziegler and Cressman finished out the quarter with one more goal apiece. Patterson got her second of the game with just one second left before time expired in the third and the Blue Jays led 15-7 after three.

Charitonchick and Madison Morabito got in on the scoring action in the fourth while Ziegler added her final two goals of the game. Charitonchick finished with six caused turnovers on the defensive side of the ball, which tied for the second-most in a single game in program history. Hennelly grabbed a team-high six ground balls.

Trynosky made seven saves in the game while Rachel Murphy had five for Etown. Ashley Finkbinker made 13 for Immaculata.

Elizabethtown will host Widener on Tuesday, March 1, at 4 p.m.
