Blue Jays Takes Two in New York City

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team earned two sweeps Saturday afternoon, topping John Jay and York (NY) 3-0. 

With the two wins, the Blue Jays improve to 8-1 on the season which is the best start in program history through nine matches.

Junior Dan Barkholtz combined for 22 assists between the two matches to lead Etown. Sophomores Dylan Holland (6) and Cody Boyer (5) each finished with career-highs in kills while  classmate Jackson Lager tallied two aces against the Cardinals.

After hitting .583 in set one against the Blood Hounds for the 25-12 win the Blue Jays kept rolling in the second. Etown cruised out to a 15-6 lead and shutdown a late surge by John Jay to move ahead 2-0 with the 25-17 win. The Blue Jays completed the sweep in the third, hitting .455 with 13 kills to take the third and final set 25-17.

In Etown's second match of the day they earned a 1-0 lead without touching the court as York forfeited the opening frame due to not enough men to start. The action got started in the second set and the Blue Jays made quick work of the Cardinals, hitting .647 to take the second frame 25-12. Etown completed the second sweep of the afternoon in the third, winning 25-11 highlighted by back-to-back aces by Lager to complete the 3-0 win over York.

Elizabethtown remains on the road with a trip to Widener on Wednesday, February 16. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
