ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team fell to Scranton, 85-82, Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 8-14 overall and 3-9 in leagues play, while the Royals improve to 13-9 on the season and 7-5 in the Landmark.
Before the start of the game, Etown celebrated its two seniors,
Ryan Fitzpatrick and
Aidan Trynosky,
Five different players scored in double figures for the Blue Jays, led by junior
Dylan Rowe with 18 points and four rebounds. Fitzpatrick finished the game 4-6 from three to tally 15 points while senior
Jalin Robinson registred t10 points. Freshman
Rance Russo and sophomore Jared archer came off the bench to score 12 and 10 points respectively.Â
Scranton finished with six different players in double figures highlighted by senior Jackson Danzig who finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.
After the Royals zipped out to a nine point lead (15-6) just under four minutes into the game Elizabethtown responded. A three pointers by Robinson made it a six point game (15-9) followed by a layup by sophomore
Tyreke Herbert shortly to keep it a six point deficit (17-11) with 15:02 remaining. The Blue Jays came all the way back to tie it at 17 after a made free throw by freshman
Jadon Green with 13:22 remaining.Â
Etown continued to hold onto the momentum, taking a two point lead (22-20) at 11:35 and then again (24-22) at 11:08. The Blue Jays then pushed it to four after Robinson knocked down a jumped in the paint to make the score 26-22 with 10:24 on the clock. Scranton, however, collected themselves at the end of the opening period and took a four point lead into the locker room at 44-40.Â
The Royals held onto the momentum at the start of the second half, using a 13-4 run to take a 57-44 lead with 15:19 remaining. Scranton continued to hold onto a double digit lead all the way to under six minutes after a layup by Rowe made the score 78-68 with 5:46 on the clock. The Blue Jays responded and closed within two, using a 14-6 run to close within two after a layup by Russo made the 84-82 with 1:34 remaining. After the Royals made on from the line, Etown calls timeout with two seconds remaining. Out of the timeout, Rowe finds Archer for a look at three but his shot hit off the back iron and Scranton escaped with the 85-82 win.Â
The Blue Jays made 33-61 (54.1%) from the floor and shot 52.9% (9-17) from three. The Royals finished the game shooting 60.8% (31-51) and knocked down 9-22 (40.9%) from deep.Â
Elizabethtown hits the road on Wednesday, February 16 to take on Catholic. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m. Â
