Blue Jays Slip Past Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team picked up their second win of the week to end 2022 as they defeated Stevenson on the road, 70-69. 

Starting off in the first half the two teams traded points as Stevenson started off with a 9-4 lead. Rance Russo and Jalin Robinson brought the Blue Jays within three of the Mustangs. Two made free throws from Austin Finarelli made the score, 16-17. At the midway point of the half, Stevenson continued to lead, 18-22. For the next few minutes, Etown went on a 12-point run to take over the lead, 30-22. With five minutes remaining in the half, the Blue Jays had extended their lead by ten. With 32 seconds in the first half, Tyreke Herbert put up a jumper. Stevenson ended the half with a good free throw as Elizabethtown led, 42-31 going into the locker room. 

Stevenson started out the second half looking to get back in the game as a jumper at 17:48 brought the score to 44-38. Robinson made the first three of the second half before Malik Hudges put up a layup and a free throw. Niko Georgelis made a fastbreak layup extending Etown's lead back to double digits. Robinson sunk another three-pointer with 10 minutes remaining as the Blue Jays led, 60-47. With four minutes remaining the Mustangs fought back coming within three of the Blue Jays. At the 2:45 minute mark Etown's Russo scored the final points for Etown. With 10 seconds remaining, the Mustangs made one final free throw bringing the score to 70-69. 

Russo led the game with 22 points as he went 10-18 in field goals. Herbert totaled 12 points while going 6-8 in field goals and added six assists. Elizabethtown shot 52.8% from the floor as 38 points came in the paint. The Etown bench was a big part in the game as they scored 27 total points of the 70. 

Elizabethtown is back at home after the new year as they host Lancaster Bible in non-conference action on January 4 at 6 PM.
