SELINSGROVE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's basketball team was off to a slow start but gained momentum in the second quarter as they rolled to a 70-53 victory over the Susquehanna Riverhawks in the opening weekend of Landmark Conference play.
Elizabethtown started off slow in the first quarter as Susquehanna held a 7-5 lead at the midway point of the quarter. At the 3:49 minute mark, a layup from
Jessica King brought the score to 10-7, Riverhawks.
Kaeli Romanowski hit a jumper with just over a minute remaining in the quarter as Etown trailed, 12-9. Susquehanna ended the quarter with one final layup as they led, 14-9. Etown started stronger in the second quarter as they went on a 5-0 run to tie it up, 14-14. Susquehanna regained the lead following a three-pointer.
Cass Peris brought the Blue Jays within one at 21-22. In the last three and a half minutes of the quarter, the Blue Jays put up 12 points while only allowing Susquehanna a free-throw. At halftime, Etown led, 34-23.
The Blue Jays kept rolling in the third quarter as
Summer McNulty started off with a jumper.
DaniRae Renno extended Elizabethtown's lead by 15-points as she dropped in two free-throws. Less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter, McNulty added a jumper bringing the score to 45-17, Blue Jays. McNulty ended the quarter with two made free throws, as the Jays led, 47-29. The fourth quarter was more tightly contested as Susquehanna totaled 24 points while Elizabethtown totaled 23. At the 6:46 minute mark in the quarter,
Cyleigh Wilson sunk a three, making the score 54-39. Etown kept their lead to double-digits as King and McNulty added a jumper midway through the quarter. A three from
Lindsay Boyd extended the Blue Jays lead, 68-50. The Riverhawks added in three more points before the end of the quarter as Etown won, 70-53.
McNulty led the team with 21 points and six rebounds. Renno and Boyd each totaled 11 points a piece while King added ten points. Peris led the team with ten rebounds. The Blue Jays shot 39.7% from the floor and recorded 16 points off turnovers.
Elizabethtown takes the week off and returns Sunday, December 11th as they host Cabrini at 2 PM.
