SELINSGROVE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team opened Landmark Conference play with a 57-56 win over Susquehanna, Saturday afternoon.
Throughout the game both teams traded points as the score was tied at 30-30 at halftime. A jumper from
Rance Russo and a layup from
Dylan Rowe brought the Blue Jays within one of the Riverhawks, five minutes in.
Austin Finarelli took it down the court on a fast break giving Etown a five-point lead. Susquehanna came back as after a Russo jumper the Jays led by one.
Niko Georgelis sunk a three for Etown largest lead yet. Elizabethtown led, 24-18 with six minutes in the half. With three minutes remaining, a Riverhawk jumper brought them within one of the Blue Jays. With three seconds on the clock, Finarelli went up for a layup tying it up 30-30.
Russo started off the scoring putting the first five points of the second half. The teams continued to trade points until Susquehanna started to pull away with an eight point lead midway through the half. Etown then went on a six-point run bringing the score, 47-49. Gerogelis tied up the game at 53-53 after sinking a three-pointer. With 27 seconds remaining, Susquehanna added a layup but Elizabethtown ultimately won, 57-56.
Russo led the team with 16 points while Rowe and Georgelis each added 11 a piece. From the bench, Finarelli totaled 10 points and five rebounds. Etown shot 44.9% from the floor with 13 points off turnovers.
The Blue Jays take a week off and return on December 12th when they travel to Marywood at 6 PM.
