SCRANTON, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball moved to 4-4, Tuesday evening as Marywood defeated the Blue Jays, 80-59.
Marywood started strong taking an 11-2 lead, five minutes into play. Elizabethtown kept Marywood from leading by double-digits as
Rance Russo sunk the first of only four three-pointers for the Blue Jays. About midway through the first half, the Paces held a 16-point lead, 23-7. For the next four minutes the game was scoreless, until at the 7:34 minute mark
Tyreke Herbert added in a free throw. With four minutes remaining in the first half, Etown cut Marywood's lead as
Malik Hudges made a layup.
Jalin Robinson got the Blue Jays within ten following a jumper. For the final two minutes, the teams traded baskets as Elizabethtown trailed, 22-33 at halftime.
Dylan Rowe and Russo started off the second half for Elizabethtown as they pitched in the first points of the half. Marywood only led by seven but they began to pull away again extending their lead, 28-45. At the 15:59 minute mark,
Austin Finarelli dropped in a three. Russo added in two layups bringing the score to 37-57. The Pacers kept up their momentum as they pulled away more after
Ben Stanton and Finarelli made two on a fast break. With 1:45 left in the game,
Jadon Green went up for a dunk on a fast break.
Vinny Gambelunghe sunk the Blue Jays fourth three-pointer of the evening. Marywood got in one final layup with nine seconds remaining as the Pacers won, 59-80.
Russo led the team and was the lone Blue Jay to reach double-digits as he totaled 17 points. Robinson totaled seven points while Herbert added six points and four rebounds. The Blue Jays struggled defensively as Marywood picked up 49 rebounds. Elizabethtown grabbed 29 rebounds. The Blue Jays shot 37.3 from the floor.
Elizabethtown returns after the Christmas holiday as they host Shenandoah on December 28th at 4:00 PM.
