ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team returned to Thompson Gymnasium, Wednesday evening as they defeated Shenandoah, 73-65.
Starting off the first half
Rance Russo made a layup and sunk a three for a 7-2 Blue Jays lead. The Hornets and Blue Jays traded points, keeping the game close as
Tyreke Herbert added two midway through the half. Etown kept their lead throughout the half. With five minutes remaining, Shenandoah came within four of Elizabethtown following a three-pointer. At the 3:23 minute mark,
Jalin Robinson brought Etown's lead to, 29-20. In the final three minutes of the half the Blue Jays only allowed four more Hornet points.
Niko Georgelis ended the half giving Etown a 10-point lead following a layup and a free throw.
In the second half, Shenandoah sunk the first five points. Elizabethtown then went on a 8-0 run to go up by 14-points. Russo ended the Blue Jays run with a layup. Shenandoah then gained momentum as they cut Etowns lead to 43-38. At the 10-minute mark, Elizabethtown pulled away to lead by ten points. For the next five minutes the Blue Jays continued to lead by double digits. A Hornet jumper and three-pointer brought Shenandoah within eight points. With just 34 seconds remaining a Hornet layup made the score, 69-65 Etown. Herbert and Russo closed out the half making all four free throws as Elizabethtown won, 73-65.
Russo led the way for both teams with 25 points and five rebounds while going 4-7 in three-pointers. Georgelis added 14 points while Herbert totaled 12 points. Elizabethtown shot, .521 from the floor and .500 from the three-point arch. Shenandoah just shot .324 from the floor but put up 20 points off Blue Jay turnovers.
Elizabethtown returns this Friday, December 30th as they head south to face Stevenson at 3 PM.
