LANCASTER, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's basketball team finished strong with a 16 points fourth quarter on their way to defeating Franklin & Marshall, 58-45 in the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic. The Blue Jays allowed just four points from the Diplomats in the final quarter.
The first quarter saw both teams go in a back and forth fashion as Franklin & Marshall led by one mid-way through the opening quarter. A layup from Makenna Mummert and
Cass Peris gave Etown a one point lead with 1:49 remaining. In the final minute of the quarter, the teams traded free throws as the Blue Jays came out on top, 16-15 going into the second quarter. Starting off the second quarter, the Diplomats started to pull away as they held a six point lead; the largest of the game thus far. Following an Elizabethtown timeout, the Jays were back in it as they put up three layups in a row from
DaniRae Renno and
Jessica King. With 30 seconds remaining in the quarter,
Taylor Huyck dropped in a layup to lead, 30-28 going into the locker room.
In the third quarter, the Blue Jays began to pull away as they racked up a seven points lead following a
Summer McNulty free throw. Franklin & Marshall began to chip away at Etowns lead. With two minutes remaining, a Diplomat layup brought them within one of the Jays. The teams ended the quarter with Etown on top, 42-41. Elizabethtown really gained momentum in the final quarter as F&M scored their final points with two minutes remaining in the quarter. The Blue Jays pulled away for a 13 point win as they were crowned the champions of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic.
Renno recorded a double-double as she totaled 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Jessica King also recorded a double-double as she totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Blue Jays shot 33.3% from the floor and 30% at the three-point line.
Elizabethtown will travel to Lebanon Valley on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 PM.
