ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball swept Goucher College, 3-0 on their way to earning their second Landmark Conference win of the season, Wednesday evening.
Elizabethtown started off set one with an 8-3 lead after two consecutive Goucher attack errors. The Gophers then took over the lead, 9-8 after Blue Jay attack errors. Kills from
Jena Minnick and
Bryanna Miller jumped Etown ahead, 12-9. Throughout the rest of the set, the teams traded points with Etown continuing to hold the lead. Following kills from Miller and
Katie Scaggs Elizabethtown led, 20-15. Goucher threw in one more kill before
Gianna Krinock smacked down set point, 25-19.
Set two was no different for the Blue Jays as they jumped out to a 7-4 after two kills from Scaggs. After some back-n-forth, Etown went on a 5-0 run extending their lead, 17-9. The Blue Jays recorded four points in a row after a kill from Krinock. Closing out the set the Jays tallied three of the final five points to win set two, 25-14. Set three, Elizabethtown racked up the first four points after kills from
Georgianna Kahley and Miller while
Lucy Stern added a service ace. The Blue Jays then rattled off five consecutive points taking an 11-4 lead. The Gophers added a few more points here and there but couldn't catch up as three Goucher attack errors extended Etown's lead, 19-8. Elizabethtown recorded the final two points winning, 25-13 as
Courtney Westman smacked down a kill before a Gopher attack error.
Elizabethtown served up nine aces to Goucher's two aces. The team tallied 39 kills while hitting .272. Miller led the match with 11 kills, two service aces, and two block assists. Scaggs totaled 10 kills (.571) and three block assists. Minnick totaled 28 assists and nine digs.
The Blue Jays moved to 14-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play as they travel to St. John Fisher to compete in a tri-match, Saturday, October,8th starting at 2 PM.
