Swarthmore Silence Blue Jays

SWARTHMORE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown field hockey team fell 4-1 on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Swarthmore as senior Grace Hussey tallied the Blue Jays lone goal in the final quarter. 

Elizabethtown started off the game strong holding possession and drawing a penalty corner within the first two minutes of the game but the Garnet were the first to get off the first shot. From the 3:53 minute mark through the rest of the quarter, Swarthmore held control taking five shots while recording the first goal of the game. Swarthmore was more dominant in the second quarter as they recorded three shots and two penalty corners within the first minute of the quarter. Keeping control with four minutes remaining in the quarter the Garnet extended their lead, 2-0 going into the half. 

Starting off the third quarter, Swartmore scored their third goal in the 33rd minute. Two minutes later, Etown got control as Sydney Aguilar took two shots but both were saved by Garnet goalie, Cassandra Conklin. With a minute remaining in the quarter, Swarthmore tallied their fourth goal following a penalty corner. The fourth quarter saw Swarthmore take an early possession and forced a penalty stroke. Etown goalie, Angelina Giglio-Tos was big in the net with a a crucial save. Two minutes later, Etown took over as they had a penalty corner and fired off two shots but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. In the 52nd minute after a penalty corner, Chloe Smith and Megan Meyer assisted Hussey for the Blue Jays lone goal. 

Together the three Elizabethtown goalies recorded nine saves. Swarthmore held the advantage in shots with 29 while the Blue Jays totaled 10. Swarthmore held a slight 7-5 edge in corners. 

The Blue Jays are back in Landmark Conference action this Saturday at 1 PM as they host Scranton.
