Field Hockey Rolls Past Rangers

MADISON, N.J.-- The Elizabethtown field hockey team rolled to a 5-1 win over Drew University in Landmark action, Saturday afternoon. Sydney Aguilar and Chloe Smith each contributed two goals apiece while Grace Hardy pitched in one goal for the Blue Jays. 

Elizabethtown started off the first quarter with strong possession and at the 5:32 minute mark the Jays were on the board. Smith took to the front of the net and then passed the ball to Aguilar on the left post. Etown finished the quarter with five more shots while not allowing the Rangers a shot. The Blue Jays were quick to strike again in the second quarter as Hardy assisted Aguilar two minutes into the quarter. The Rangers took their first two shots of the game followed by two penalty corners in the 19th minute. 

With a 2-0 lead at halftime, Etown kept up their momentum in the third just two minutes into the third quarter the Jays were on the board again. After the penalty corner insert from Grace Hussey, Smith tipped the ball in front for Hardy to score. Minutes later Elizabethtown recorded their fourth goal of the game as Megan Meyer assisted Smith on the goal. In the 36th minute, Drew tallied their lone goal of the game after a rebounded shot. In the fourth quarter Etown took their time tallying the final goal of the game. In the 57th minute, Smith recorded her eighth goal of the season as she put a free ball right past the Drew goalie. 

Elizabethtown out shot Drew 25-17 and held a 16-14 edge in corners. Madeline Kachel tied a career-high seven saves in the net for the Blue Jays.
