YORK, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team earned their 17th win of the season on their way to defeating York (Pa.) in a close non-conference matchup, Friday evening.
With 35 tying scores and 18 lead changes, Elizabethtown went on to win 3-1 as they hit .179 while York just hit .128 in a four-set thriller. Set one saw the teams trade points until Etown took a four-point lead after an ace from
Kambrie Hepler. Locked at 15-15, York took the lead after two consecutive kills. Separated by no more than four points throughout the set, the Blue Jays rattled off the final six points winning, 26-24.
Gracie Britten,
Georgianna Kahley and,
Katie Scaggs picked up a kill apiece in the final six points. Set two started just the same as neither team could get a substantial lead.
Bryanna Miller smacked down a kill to give Etown a one-point lead, 7-6. After a four-point run by the Spartans, the Blue Jays tied it up at 11-11 after two York errors. York then jumped ahead, 16-12 and the Jays couldn't manage to recover as they dropped set two, 21-25.
Set three saw York come out stronger as they led, 11-6 after a kill and two service aces. Etown tied things up 13-13 after kills from Hepler and Miller. After some back-n-forth, the Jays led by five following three Spartan errors. York tried to close the gap but a kill from Britten and a service ace from
Gianna Krinock ended the set, 25-20. In the final set there were 12 ties which was the most of the four-set match. A kill from Britten gave the Blue Jays a 10-9 lead before York retook the lead after three points in a row. Elizabethtown went on a 6-8 run, leading by three after a
Courtney Westman kill. Krinock and Kahley added kills to come within two of match point before Spartan added their final kill. Two York errors sealed the, 25-19 win in set four for Elizabethtown.
Kahley led the team with eight kills (.231), five block assists, and two digs. Krinock pitched in seven kills and 18 digs while Hepler added 16 digs of her own. Scaggs tied a career-high seven total blocks.
The Blue Jays take the rest of the weekend off and return, Tuesday, October 18th at Penn St.-Harrisburg at 7 PM.
