TOWSON, Md. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team earned its sixth straight victory after beating Goucher Wednesday night on the road at the Decker Center.
DaniRae Renno led four players in double figures with 15 points.
Veronica Christ,
Taylor Huyck, and
Clare Marchese were also in double digits for the Blue Jays. All 13 players that played for Etown scored points in the win.
Elizabethtown (12-2, 4-0 Landmark) got off to a quick 5-0 start thanks to Christ's and-one play, which was then followed by
Jessica King's basket in transition. That was started by Renno's block at the defensive end.
It was still a six-point game midway through the first when the Blue Jays began to pull away. An 11-2 run helped Etown over a three minute span.
Cyleigh Wilson found Renno inside for the bucket plus the foul. The forward made the freebie and the Jays led 24-9 with a little under two minutes to go. Elizabethtown led 27-12 after one quarter.
The Blue Jays poured it on in the second period, outscoring Goucher (1-12, 0-5 Landmark) 26-6. Marchese's three, one of two in the game for the senior and three of her 10 points, started things off in the second.
Emily Kramer came off the bench and scored consecutive baskets down low as the lead grew to 20, 34-14. Wilson's trey, one of six in the game for the Jays, closed out the half. EC led 53-18 at the break.
The Gophers went on a short 6-0 spurt midway through the third quarter, but
Lindsay Boyd converted the layup plus the foul to prevent any sort of momentum for Goucher. Boyd's scoring chance came off a defensive board from
Cassandra Peris. Marchese and
Katie Haefner scored the final two buckets of the third for Etown as they led by 43 going into the fourth, 75-32.
Early in the fourth, Haefner,
Grace Nazih, and Boyd hit back-to-back-to-back shots for the Blue Jays. Peris posted the last four points of the game for Etown as they won handily to remain unbeaten in Landmark Conference play.
Elizabethtown committed a season-low eight turnover and dominated in the paint, 56-22. They also controlled the boards as they finished with a 49-26 advantage in rebounding.
The women's basketball team remains on the road as they travel to face Scranton on Saturday, January 22, at 4 p.m.
