ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team battled Scranton for 60 minutes Saturday at Wolf Field, but the Royals put up 11 goals in each half and held the Blue Jays to 11 total as Scranton went on to a 22-11 win.
Lexie Sharp led Etown with a team-high five goals and
Jennifer Beihoff made 12 saves in goal.
Emily Garvin grabbed the opening draw control, one of her team-high nine in the game, which tied for ninth-most all-time in a single game.
Jesse Sartor earned a free position on the ensuing possession for Elizabethtown (1-5, 1-5 Landmark), but Lauren Devlin came up with the save, one of her 10 in the game. Beihoff stopped the first of her 12 at the other end.
Scranton (5-1, 5-1 Landmark) broke through a little over three minutes into the game on Jill Henson's goal. Minutes later,
Madison Morabito netted the game-tying goal unassisted.
The Royals scored nine unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-1 lead with less than ten minutes to go in the first half. Sartor,
Anna Charitonchick, and Sharp each scored as Etown put up three consecutive goals to climb back into it at 10-4. The Royals got one back with just 16 seconds left before the half to go into the break ahead 11-4.
A pair of goals by Erin Reich extended Scranton's advantage back up to nine, but less than a minute after Reich's second goal of the half, Sharp responded, jumping and reaching high into the air to catch
Hannah Cressman's pass and dump it into the goal past Devlin.
Every time the Royals looked to run away with the game, the Blue Jays battled back. Ziegler (2) and Sharp racked up another set of three back-to-back-to-back goals for Etown to get it back to 15-8 after being down 15-5.
Zoe Sheppard got into the action and recorded her first career goal with 14:53 to go in the game. Sharp followed it up with her fourth of the contest to cut the deficit to six once again. Though, from there, Scranton posted six of the game's final seven goals and doubled up Elizabethtown in the end, 22-11.
Jill Henson had a game-high eight points for Scranton while Sharp finished with seven on five goals and two assists.
Kate Ziegler added a pair of goals and two assists. She also had a team-best four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
