HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Paige Phillips scattered seven hits over seven innings of work and got out of a jam late in game one as Etown got a 3-1 win.
Ashley Mistichelli hit the go ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning as Etown earned a split with Juniata after the Eagles took game two, 10-2, in six innings.
Game 1: Elizabethtown 3, Juniata 1
Grace Hussey stole second with two outs in the top of the first to get into scoring position for
Amelia Lark. The junior singled to right center, which was enough to allow Hussey to score safely. Phillips added a two-out hit in the inning and the Jays came away with a 1-0 lead out of the gate.
Phillips held Juniata scoreless through three innings, but in the fourth, the Eagles got on the board with a run to tie the game up 1-1.
To help her own cause, Phillips smacked a two-out double to left field in the sixth. It was her team-leading sixth of the season. Mistichelli stepped up and hit her fourth career home run, a two-run shot to give Etown the 3-1 lead in the sixth.
That would be all Phillips would need, though Juniata didn't go lightly. The Eagles had the bases loaded with the game-tying run in scoring position. Phillips induced a ground ball to
Courtney Fitzsimons at short and she was able to get the final out for the second straight victory for the Jays.
Game 2: Juniata 10, Elizabethtown 2 (F/6)
A three-run home run for Juniata put them ahead after the first inning, but Elizabethtown came right back with an answer in the next half inning with two runs on three hits.
Phillips singled and Mistichelli doubled to put two runners on and with two outs,
Lisa Scanlon singled in both base runners with a single down the right field line to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Etown remained within a run until the bottom of the third when the Eagles scored three more runs on four hits to go up 6-2. Juniata tacked on another in the fourth to increase the lead to five.
Phillips and Mistichelli, as they had been all day, both got on base in the sixth. Phillips was on third with two outs in the inning, but Catherine Miller got the final out to end the Jays' threat.
Juniata scored three runs in the sixth and won 10-2 to split the first pair of games.
