Sharp sets season highs in win at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Lexie Sharp set season highs in goals, assists, and points for the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team Wednesday night at Juniata. Sharp posted five goals and four assists to lead the Blue Jays to their first win of the season, 12-9. Jennifer Beihoff had three saves in goal in the win.

Sharp set the tone for the game with an early assist, setting up Jesse Sartor for the game's opening goal less than two minutes in.

Talia Bertrando responded for Juniata (0-3, 0-3 Landmark) to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead with back-to-back goals.

Sharp scored her first of five in the game at the 20:32 mark of the first half, and by 14:36, Elizabethtown (1-3, 1-3 Landmark) had a 6-2 lead. Part of the 5-0 run the Jays went on was started by Sharp's first. The senior had a hat trick in that run with three goals in a little over four minutes.

Hannah Cressman scored her first of the season and became the seventh different Etown player to record a goal this season. Sam Deiaco took a feed from Kate Ziegler that put the Jays up 6-2.

The Eagles got within a goal, 6-5, with four and a half minutes to go. Elizabethtown maintained the one-goal margin at halftime, leading 7-6 after Juniata got a goal back with 16 seconds left in the first half.

The Blue Jays' defense did its job in the second half and finished with a season high 17 caused turnovers. Etown also had the advantage off the draw, winning the draw control battle 14-9, including seven of the nine in the second half. Ziegler and Emily Garvin tied for a team high with three draw controls each.

Sharp registered a pair of goals over the first six minutes and along with Anna Charitonchick, gave Elizabethtown a 10-6 advantage. Sharp scored twice and assisted on the other three goals as she had a part in all five second-half goals for the Jays.

Beihoff only needed to make three saves in goal as the defense in front of her had done its job. They held Juniata to just 15 shots and held the Eagles scoreless over the final 18 minutes of the game. Amber Venit had a team-best three caused turnovers.

Elizabethtown will have the weekend off before getting back on the field April 7 at Catholic.
