BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Down by five at halftime, the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team got things going in the second half of Wednesday night's Landmark Conference matchup at Moravian.
Kate Ziegler and
Lexie Sharp each had hat tricks, but the Blue Jays came up short against the Greyhounds, 12-8.
Madison Morabito scored her first two goals in an Etown uniform in the game.
Moravian (1-0, 1-0 Landmark) got off to a quick start as they led 3-0 after the first ten minutes of action, paced by the game's leading goal scorer Meaghan McMullan.
Ziegler scored her first of the three with 14:39 to go in the first half to get Elizabethtown (0-2, 0-2 Landmark) on the board.
Another three goals scored by the Greyhounds bumped the lead up to five, 6-1, with 11:17 to go before halftime.
Hannah Cressman found Sharp for her first of the night, but Moravian would limit Etown to just those two goals in the first 30 minutes.
Anna Charitonchick registered her first two assists of the season as Elizabethtown posted back-to-back goals exactly one minute apart to climb within three at 7-4. Morabito opened the scoring in the second half for the Jays before Sharp netted her second of the game.
Etown recorded five of the first seven goals in the final 30 minutes as they had the Greyhounds on their heels. Both Morabito and Sharp got the Blue Jays within two with less than four minutes to play, but Moravian added a pair of goals in the final minute to seal the deal and hold off Elizabethtown's rally.
Jennifer Beihoff made nine saves in goal for the Jays.
Cassidy Pawlicki had a team-high five ground balls and tied for a team-high with
Emily Garvin with two caused turnovers each.
Elizabethtown will host Susquehanna on Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m. on Wolf Field.
