Dutchmen Slip Past Blue Jays in Non-Conference Action

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team fell to Lebanon Valley. 70-54, Tuesday night in Thompson Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 3-3 on the season, while the Dutchmen improve to 3-3.

Junior Dylan Rowe finished with a career-high 13 points to pace Etown. Seniors Aidan Trynosky and Jalin Robinson each scored nine and sophomore Tyreke Herbert came off the bench to add eight points, and four rebounds.

Junior Collin Jones scored a game-high 22 points to lead LVC. Freshman Evin Timochenko registered his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Ryan Harder came off the bench to tally 18 points, shooting a perfect 6-6 from the field and 4-4 from three.

Tied at five early in the first half, Robinson grabbed a defensive rebound and started the break the other way. The ball found its way to Trynosky who buried a three-pointer, giving the Blue Jays a 8-5 lead wth 14:37 remaining in the opening stanza.

Lebanon Valley bounced back to take lead and then stretch it to nine (21-12) with just under 4:30 to play. Trynosky, however, quickly stopped the Dutchmen surge on the next possession as Robinson found him for the open three, making the score 21-15. Etown would close within two twice over the final stretch, but a final jumper by junior Luis Garcia gave Lebanon Valley a 29-24 lead heading into the locker room.

Just under four minutes into the second half, the Blue Jays made it a one possession game as sophomore Jared Archer hit freshman Nick Rappa with a pass in the paint for the easy two points, cutting the Dutchmen's lead to three (31-28). Elizabethtown continued to push and closed within one (36-35) after a layup by Herbert.

Lebanon Valley managed to push its lead back to nine twice, but back-to-back layups by Rowe made the score 46-41 with 7:51 remaining in the game. That, however, would be the final surge for the Blue Jays as the Dutchmen used a 12-2 run to increase its advantage to 16 (59-43) on its way to the 70-54 victory.

Etown finished the game 22-56 (39.3%) from the floor and shot 24% (6-25) from three. Lebanon Valley shot 43.3% (26-60) overall and knocked down 5-20 (25%) from beyond the arc. The Dutchmen won the turnover battle, turning the Blue Jays' 19 turnovers into 19 points.
