BALTIMORE, Md. - The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team fell to Division I Loyola, XX-XX, in a exhibition matchup Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Jays were led by senior
Jalin Robinson and freshman
Rance Russo with eight points. Sophomore
Tyreke Herbert had a team-high nine rebounds and junior
Dylan Rowe paced Etown with four rebounds
Three different players scored in double-figures for the Greyhounds with Cam Spencer leading all scorers with 13 points in 31 minutes.
With Loyola holding a six point advantage (11-5) just under five minutes into the first half, the Blue Jays mounted an early rally. Herbert started the burst, knocking down a jumper in the paint. Robinson then grabbed a defensive rebound at the other end and was shortly rewarded as Rowe found him for the bucket, making the score 11-9 with 13:59 remaining in the opening stanza.
The Blue Jays continued to battle through the first half and moved within one point when sophomore
Niko Georgelis drained a three pointer, putting the score at 13-12 with under 13 minutes to play in the opening period.
A free throw by Russo with 8:29 on the clock kept it a one possession game (17-14) but the Greyhounds used a 12-2 run to end the half to take a 29-16 lead into the locker room.
Elizabethtown managed to close within 11 early in the second half, but that is as close as they would get, falling to Loyola 69-42.
The Blue Jays shot 26.2% (16-61) from the floor and knocked down 5-21 (23.8%) from three. The Greyhounds finished the game 29-67 (43.3%) overall and 26.7% (8-30) from beyond the arc. Loyola found its advantage in the paint, outscoring Etown 38-14.
Elizabethtown is back in action on Tuesday, November 30 on the road against Valley Forge. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
