#6 Rowan powers past Blue Jays

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- Rowan had its offense working on all cylinders Wednesday night against the Elizabethtown College field hockey team. The sixth-ranked Profs scored at least once in each quarter and went on to a 7-1 win over the Blue Jays. Grace Hussey recorded Etown's lone goal in the game.

Elizabethtown (7-10) was able to hold off Rowan through the first 10 minutes, but the Profs got on the board in the final five of the opening quarter to grab a 1-0 lead going into the second.

Rowan (13-2) held the Blue Jays without a shot during the first half and Julia Patrone scored two of her three goals in the second quarter. The Profs led 3-0 at the break.

Four and a half minutes into the third quarter, Etown earned a penalty corner. Hussey inserted out top and Anna Mostoller worked the ball to her right to Chloe Smith. The junior dribbled into the circle and sent a hard pass across the face of goal that made it through several players and onto the stick of Hussey, who was waiting at the far post. It was Hussey's fifth goal of the season.

Hussey's goal cut the deficit to just two, at 3-1, with plenty of time left, but it was the only goal Rowan would concede. The Profs added three goals in the third to take a commanding 6-1 lead, including a goal on the final play of the period, scoring on a corner play. Rowan registered their final goal in the fourth.

Angelina Giglio-Tos made eight saves for the Blue Jays in the first half. Rachel Murphy played the fourth and had five saves. Madeline Kachel came into the game out of halftime and stopped four shots in the third quarter.

Elizabethtown finishes out the season on Saturday, October 30, at Scranton. Game time is 1 p.m.
