Elizabethtown Falls to Marymount in CVC Action

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College men's volleyball fell to Marymount, 3-1, in Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) action Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in the CVC, while the Saints improve to 7-8 on the year and 1-1 in the league.
 
Senior Nick Baxter finished with his second consecutive double-double, tallying 12 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Tony Camillo registered a team-high four block assists and classmate Dan Barckholtz recorded 28 assists and 14 digs.
 
Sophomore Jason Perkins hit .563 with 11 kills for Marymount. Senior Joseph Zanelotti finished with 38 assists and 19 digs.

ELIZABETHTOWN 1, MARYMOUNT 3 (25-22, 20-25, 10-25, 20-25)
  • SET ONE: Tied at six, Elizabethtown rattled off four straight points, capped off by an ace from freshman Blake Hildebrand, to take a 10-6 lead and force a timeout by the Saints. Marymount came out of the timeout and charged back into the match with a 4-1 run to close the deficit to one (11-10). After the Blue Jays responded with a 4-1 rally of its own, they managed to hold onto a four point lead (17-13). The back-and-forth continued as the Saints rattled off five straight point to move back to the front at 18-17. Elizabethtown grabbed back the momentum, scoring five of the next points to go ahead 22-19 and force Marymount's final timeout. The Blue Jays road that streak to an opening set victory, 25-22.
  • SET TWO: Down one (9-8), Elizabethtown sprung to the front with three quick points highlighted by Camillo and freshman Steven Swain combining for a block for the 11-9 lead. The Saints grabbed the momentum right back with a 7-1 run to move ahead 16-12 and force a timeout by the Blue Jays. Marymount continued to press, stretching it advantage to 22-14. Elizabethtown made one last surge with a 6-1 rally, but the Saints scored the final two points of the set to tie the match at one, 25-20.
  • SET THREE: Marymount jumped all over the Blue Jays at the start off the third, taking a 17-7 lead. The Saints controlled the set and took the 2-1 lead with the 25-10 victory.
  • SET FOUR: The fourth started similarly as the third, as Marymount zipped out to a 10-5 lead. Marymount continued to hold onto the momentum, pushing its advantage to 17-8 and forcing a timeout by Elizabethtown. With Marymont holding a nine point lead (22-13), the Blue Jays began to chip away at the deficit, using a 7-2 rally to close within four (24-20) and holding the serve. The Saints, however, finished off its first CVC victory of the season with the 25-20 win.
