Women's basketball dealt home loss by Landmark-leading Catholic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Catholic swept the regular season series with the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team after handing the Blue Jays a 94-59 loss at Thompson Gymnasium Wednesday evening in Landmark Conference action. The Landmark-leading Cardinals got 28 points and 14 rebounds from Sydney Poindexter and held E-town to less than 30 percent from the field. Veronica Christ had a team-high 21 points for Elizabethtown.

Catholic (17-3, 8-1 Landmark) was able to exploit the Blue Jays down low, racking up 62 points in the paint over the course of the game. The Cardinals also out-rebounded Elizabethtown (10-9, 6-3 Landmark) by a 60-44 (+16) margin and had 19 second chance points.

CATHU's depth also came in to play as the visitors were able to consistently rotate lineups and amass 26 fast break points.

Christ had 12 points at the half for the Jays on 5-for-10 shooting. The rest of the team, however, was a combined 2-for-23, as E-town trailed 43-23 at halftime.

Lydia Lawson had 10 second-half points to finish with 15 on the night and lead Elizabethtown with four assists and a 4-for-5 effort at the foul line. The Blue Jays were able to get to the free throw line, shooting just under 30 attempts in the game (18-for-29).

Catholic's hot shooting from the first quarter kept up all game. The Cardinals shot just shy of 44 percent in the opening quarter before raising the percentage to 50 percent in the second, going 11-for-22 from the floor. Catholic ended the night hitting 43 of 90 shot attempts (47.8%) while holding Elizabethtown to its worst shooting percentage of the season.

The women's basketball team will head to Susquehanna to face the River Hawks on Saturday, February 8, at 4 p.m.
