COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- Ursinus scored in each of the four quarters Wednesday night against the Elizabethtown College field hockey team and went on to a 5-1 win over the Blue Jays.
Olivia Beachley tallied the only goal of the game for E-town.
The Bears, who recently moved up six spots in the latest national poll to No. 13, got on top of Elizabethtown (1-4) in the first minute with a goal from Brianne Nicholas. Ursinus (3-1) inserted off their first penalty corner of the game, and, after the initial shot was saved by
Madeline Kachel, the rebound made its way to Nicholas for her first of the season.
Jamie Mayer made it 2-0 for the hosts in the second quarter when the game was halted due to a lightning delay in the middle of the second.
When play resumed, the senior combo of Beachley and
Lauren Scheib combined for E-town's goal. Scheib passed over from the right and Beachley buried her shot attempt top left to cut the deficit in half with 3:29 left in the half. Kachel made a pair of saves late in the second quarter to keep it 2-1 at the break.
Though the Jays outshot the Bears in the third quarter, they couldn't get it past goalie Addie Frey, who made four saves on the night.
Laura Rothschild made it 3-1 in the third quarter before Ursinus added two late goals in the fourth to make it 5-1.
Kachel had five saves in the game before
Kali Kishter came in for the final 10 minutes. Kishter made one save in her time on the field. Beachley and
Chloe Smith tied for a team-high with three shots for Elizabethtown.
The field hockey team will have a ten-day break before getting back into action on Saturday, September 21, at Wolf Field for a non-conference date with Stockton. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
