ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Seniors
Justin Cherry and
Anthony Cameron held Juniata scoreless over the final three innings and the Elizabethtown College baseball team still had some late-inning magic left in them from Saturday's pair of walkoffs to get the series sweep over Juniata on Sunday at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. A four-run rally in the eighth put the Blue Jays in front and Cameron earned his first save of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Juniata (9-19, 1-11 Landmark) started off the game with a 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single from Isaac Maclay.
-
Mike Christy drove in a pair of runs with a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the first to give Elizabethtown (11-19, 4-8 Landmark) a 2-1 lead.
-
Derek Manning homered for the fourth time in six games with his league-leading eighth of the season, a three-run home run the opposite way to increase the lead to 5-1 after two.
-
Reece Jones was effective for the Blue Jays over four innings, surrendering just two runs.
- A four-run sixth for the Eagles had them back in the lead, 6-5. Adam Kipp, the team's starter before turning to DH, triple to right center to drive in two that gave Juniata the lead back.
-
Taggart Hess drew a one-out walk after coming in as a pinch hitter for Elizabethtown.
Michael Rajnik then took his spot at first as a pinch runner. He moved up the second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on pinch hitter
Andrew Coleman's ground out to second base.
-
Anthony Knight was hit by a pitch and then was able to steal second. Trying to get Rajnik at third, the throw got away and Rajnik scored to tie the game at 6-6. Knight advanced to third on the error.
-
Robbie Bertucio singled deep in the hole at second base to score Knight and give the Jays the lead back at 7-6.
- Christy was safe at first on an errant throw and then scampered up to second and then third base as the ball had gotten away from the bag. Bertucio was able to score on the play. Trying to get Christy at third base, the throw to third was overthrown and that allowed the junior to score safely as another two runs came across the plate and E-town now led by three.
- Cameron relieved Cherry, who had pitched the seventh and eighth innings for EC.
- After Maclay walked, Cameron got Jake Swank swinging for strike three and induced a ground ball double play to end the game. Cherry earned his second win of the season and Cameron got the save to give Elizabethtown the series sweep over Juniata.
