Sharp ties school record, women's lacrosse wins first of the season

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse was able to break into the win column after a 21-11 win over Alvernia at Wolf Field on Saturday. Lexie Sharp was the main catalyst for the Blue Jays as she tied the program record for goals in a game. She was one of seven different players to score for E-town in the win.

Elizabethtown (1-4) and Alvernia (2-1) scored just 32 seconds apart in the first three minutes of the game. Madelyn Baker scored her 15th of the season to put E-town ahead 1-0 at 27:45. At 27:13, Rachel Judge had put the game level at 1-1 with her first of the game.

Sharp had three of the next six goals, all by the Blue Jays, to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The sophomore needed only 13 minutes between her first and third goals to complete her hat trick and she was just getting started. Julia Ferrante had assists on two of Sharp's first three goals and finished with six in the game, tied for the fifth-most in a single game in program history.

The Golden Wolves answered with three consecutive goals by Judge, Erika Whitmoyer, and Brittany Defibaugh. Their goals cut the lead down to 7-4 with 8:21 left in the half. Baker and Sharp both scored man-up goals with another goal by Sharp in between that made it 10-4. A goal by Madison Hengey put the score at 10-5 by halftime. Hengey scored with 31 seconds left in the half.

Sharp split her 10 goals in the game evenly, with five in the first and five in the second. Her goal total tied the program record for goals in a game. She is the first with double digit goals since Dana Robidoux achieved the feat on April 2, 2016 against Merchant Marine. Sharp also had two assists. Her 12 points tied for the third-most in a single game in school history.

Kate Ziegler (2), Ferrante (1), Jess Principe (1), Jesse Sartor (1), and Mirthe Berends also scored for the Jays.

Abby Kopytko made eight saves in goal for Elizabethtown to get the win.

The Blue Jays are on the road at Albright on Wednesday, March 13, at 4 p.m.
