Ziegler scores five in Blue Jays' loss at Albright

READING, Pa. -- Kate Ziegler accounted for half of the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team's scoring output at Albright on Wednesday. Ziegler recorded five of E-town's 10 goals in a 17-10 loss to the Lions.

Elizabethtown (1-5) trailed 3-0 and 5-1 before getting within two goals less than three minutes before the half. Lexie Sharp scored in the sixth consecutive game to start the season. Her team-leading 21st of the season made it 3-1 with 20:11 on the clock.

Albright (4-2) scored another two to go up by four. Ziegler recorded her first of five in the game at 8:41 to cut it to 5-2. While the Lions were held scoreless by goalie Abby Kopytko and the Blue Jays' defense, Jesse Sartor made it back-to-back goals for E-town. Her third of the year dropped the deficit to two, 5-3, with 2:49 to go in the first half.

Kelly Baumann scored her fourth of the first half to double the lead at 6-3 as the Lions led at the break.

Albright pulled away with six unanswered to start the second before Ziegler's second of the game and 14th of the year stopped the streak and made it 12-4. Mirthe Berends, Julia Ferrante, and Madelyn Baker each scored for the Jays and Ziegler had the team's final three goals, but the lead was too big with time running out and the Lions held off Elizabethtown.

Kopytko had nine saves in the game for E-town. Terae Mason had a game-high 10 before being replaced 16 minutes into the second half by Nicole Elliott, who made one save in 14:08 of action.

The Blue Jays host Neumann at Wolf Field on Saturday, March 16, at 12 p.m.
