Blue Jays fly past Neumann

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Neumann scored first, but it was all Elizabethtown after that as the Blue Jays flew past the Knights for their second straight home victory. Madelyn Baker had a team-high six goals as E-town won handily, 21-11.

Reilly Fiedler scored unassisted 50 seconds in Saturday's non-conference contest for Neumann (4-2), but it was quickly answered by Jess Principe less than half a minute later. Principe's fourth of the season tied the score at 1-1. 23 seconds later, Baker had her first of six in the game to give Elizabethtown (2-5) the lead and they never looked back. Julia Ferrante provided the assist on the goal, one of her team-high six.

E-town scored six unanswered goal to go up 6-1 less than five minutes into the game. Brylin Adams scored on a free position to cut into that lead, but another three goals from Lexie Sharp, Jesse Sartor, and Principe made it 9-2.

The Knights made a run with Kaitlyn Conrad scoring two of her game-high seven goals. Brittany Cassidy's seventh of the season at 18:59 made it 9-5, but it would be as close as Neumann would get to the Blue Jays. EC scored nine times before the end of the half, including a man-up goal by Ferrante and a pair of man-down goals by Kate Ziegler with 3:19 to go before the half and at 10 seconds remaining. Elizabethtown led 18-5 at the break.

Neumann scored four of the first five goals of the second half, with three belonging to Conrad. The lead was too big, however. Sharp and Abby Spessard recorded goals in the final 5:07 that had it at 21-9. Conrad scored her final two goals of the game in the last 1:37.

Abby Kopytko made three saves for the Blue Jays in the first half. Caity Howell replaced Kopytko at halftime and made one save in the final 30 minutes. Catriona Corrigan had 10 in goal for the Knights.

Elizabethtown is on the road at Catholic next Saturday, March 23, to begin Landmark Conference play.
