ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's volleyball team celebrated its senior players Tuesday night before hosting Penn State Altoona in a non-conference match at Thompson Gymnasium. E-town won the first set, but the Lions took three straight to win the match over the Blue Jays.
Nick Baxter put down two of his team-high 21 kills for Elizabethtown (11-16) and
Tim Zieber served up an ace as the Jays were out to a 3-1 lead on Penn State Altoona (10-11).
Some unforced errors for the Lions aided E-town's increased advantage in the first set as it grew to 10-4. PSA did take the lead late and had set point on the Blue Jays, but they were thwarted by Baxter's kill.
Steven Schreffler came in to serve for Elizabethtown and ended the set 26-24 with a service ace.
Penn State Altoona responded with a win in the second set, 25-18. They would also go on to win the third and fourth sets by the same score to finish off the 3-1 match victory over E-town.
Baxter's 21 kills were the fifth time this season he's recorded at least 20 in a match.
Ethan Maurer added 11 kills for the Jays.
Mark Hall had a team-best five blocks, while
Kyle Murray and Zieber each posted four stuffs. Zieber had 32 assists on the night and
Derek Yenser led EC with 13 digs.
