BETHELEM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season at Moravian on Saturday. The Blue Jays held a lead after doubles, but the Greyhounds took over in singles to beat E-town 6-3 in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams.
Sarah Donner and
Laura Gribble won at No. 3 doubles 8-6 to give Elizabethtown (3-1, 0-1 Landmark) a 1-0 lead to start Saturday's match. Moravian (7-1, 1-0 Landmark) won at No. 1 doubles as Emma Angle and Eiman Nazif were able to outlast the Jays with a narrow 8-7 win.
Amber Burd and
Meghan Chemidlin remained unbeaten as a duo at No. 2 doubles with an 8-7 win. Burd and Chemidlin won 8-7 (8-6) to put E-town ahead 2-1 in the match as the teams went into singles play.
The Greyhounds were ahead 3-2 after singles victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Chemidlin moved to 2-0 on the day with a win at No. 3 singles, which made it 3-3. The senior won handily over Mary Angle, 6-1, 6-2.
Needing two more wins in singles for the match, Moravian would wind up with all three of the remaining points left in singles play to win the match, 6-3.
Elizabethtown hosts Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, March 27, at 3:30 p.m.
