Baseball falls in series at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College baseball team lost its series with Moravian after falling in game one and were swept by the Greyhounds after a loss in game three. Robbie Bertucio hit his first career home run for the Blue Jays in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Gillespie Field.

Game 1: Moravian 2, Elizabethtown 1
In a low scoring affair to open the day's doubleheader, all three runs of the game between Elizabethtown (5-12, 1-5 Landmark) and Moravian (9-7, 5-1 Landmark) were scored in the fifth inning.

After four scoreless innings and two outs in the top of the fifth, Bertucio made his way around the bases after hitting the first homer of his career to left field. He gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds got the run back on a sac fly in the bottom half of the inning and then took the lead on an RBI single.

E-town had the game-tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but Moravian was able to work around it and end it with a 2-1 win.

Game 2: Moravian 8, Elizabethtown 3
The Greyhounds posted runs in three of the first five innings of game two to get out 8-0 on the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown broke up the shutout bid in the eighth with three runs. Doug Hook, an eighth-inning pinch hitter, knocked in Andrew Fisher with a single to right center. Fisher led off the eighth with a single to center field. With Hook on at first and Tyler McGonigle at third, Nick Bein drove in both base runners with a double to make it 8-3.

Tyler Caraway didn't allow another run to score after taking over for Evan Kulig for the final five outs. Kulig got the win after striking out six in his 7.1 innings of work. Kelly Holdren threw three scoreless for the Jays, striking out five.

The Blue Jays play at Muhlenberg on Thursday, March 28, at 3:30 p.m.
