ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College baseball team used eight pitchers in Wednesday's 13-3 win over Franklin & Marshall at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium.
Nathaniel Barnes earned the first win of his career and E-town pounded out 15 hits in the win.
Robbie Bertucio,
Mike Christy, and
Michael Rajnik each had three hits apiece for the Blue Jays.
Franklin & Marshall (11-3), winners of five straight going into Wednesday afternoon's non-conference affair, took an early 1-0 lead on Don DiLoreto's RBI double to right center.
Justin Cherry, who came on to replace starter
Alex DeHaas after an inning, got the Jays through the second unscathed and
Kyle Glouner took over and pitched another two scoreless innings for Elizabethtown (5-9).
Christy drilled one of his two triples in the game to deep center to score Bertucio and tie the game at one in the bottom half of the fourth.
The Diplomats regained the lead in the next half inning on Kelsey Launi's single through the right side. E-town came right back on Bertucio's RBI base hit to right center.
Tyler McGonigle scored on the play to tie it for a second time.
Barnes relieved
Mason Abate in the top of the sixth and, after a leadoff double, got the next three outs in order to avoid any damage done. The Blue Jays came through in the bottom of the sixth to put Barnes in line for the win.
Christy's second triple of the day put a runner one base away from EC taking the lead for the first time.
Nick Bein drew a walk and
James Kantner, a fifth-inning defensive replacement in the outfield, singled in Christy to give Elizabethtown the 3-2 lead. It was the first of nine runs for the Blue Jays in the sixth.
An errant throw on
Tom Armstrong's bunt allowed two more runs to score. Rajnik followed with an RBI double to right field. Rajnik moved up on a ground out to short and then
Anthony Knight knocked in Rajnik from third to put E-town ahead 7-2. Christy came up with the bases loaded and smashed a ball out to right field for two bases and scored another two. Bein and Kantner also added RBIs as 13 batters came up to the plate for the Jays in the inning.
Knight and Bertucio each had RBI ground outs in the seventh as Elizabethtown scored for the fourth consecutive inning to make it 13-2.
Alex Miller hit a sac fly to right in the eighth for the Diplomats' third run of the game.
Cory Freedner,
Jared Witner, and
Kelly Holdren each pitched an inning to close out the game. Holdren struck out two in the ninth.
Christy had a team-high three RBIs in the game while Knight and Bertucio also had multi-RBI games for the Blue Jays.
E-town is on the road this weekend for a Landmark Conference series at Moravian. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
