ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- David Gately held the Elizabethtown College baseball team to five hits over nine innings to help Catholic take the rubber match 5-2 and win the weekend series 2-1.
James Kantner and
Derek Manning each drove in a run for E-town in the game three loss.
Ryan Tracy and Bailey Lewis gave Catholic (9-4, 2-1 Landmark) a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Andrew Fisher laid down a bunt that slowly rolled toward third base and beat out the throw to first to put a runner on for the Jays. As Kantner stood in the box, Fisher stole second to get into scoring position. The senior then knocked a single to center field, allowing Fisher to score from second to make it 2-1 in the bottom half of the second.
The Cardinals had runners at first and second with two outs in the fourth when a passed ball allowed Nolan Lundholm and Connor Cozad to advance a base to put a pair in scoring position for Tighe Watson. Watson laced a single through the right side as both runners scored. Cid Porter singled to short and Watson made it 5-1. Watson had stolen second prior to Porter's base hit deep in the hole at short.
Gately was efficient for Catholic as he scattered five Elizabethtown (4-8, 1-2 Landmark) hits over his nine innings of work. Manning smacked his fourth homer of the year over the left field fence in the bottom of the eighth, but that's all Gately would allow as he retired the Jays in order in the ninth to close out the win.
Manning,
Anthony Knight,
JT Thompson, Fisher, and Kantner each had a hit for E-town. Porter was 3-for-4 for the Cardinals.
Elizabethtown plays at York (Pa.) on Tuesday, March 19 at 4 p.m.
