HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata shot over 60 percent in the second half and made over 20 trips to the foul line to help pull away from the Elizabethtown College men's basketball after only leading by three at halftime for a 87-69 Landmark Conference win at Memorial Gymnasium.
Michael Pastore tied for a game-high with 18 points.
Matt Thomas was also in double figures for E-town with 10.
Elizabethtown (10-13, 5-8 Landmark) led for a good portion of the first half at Juniata (9-15, 3-10 Landmark), though Marcus Hall and Brandon Martinazzi put the Eagles up 37-34 at the half with baskets in the last 1:24. They held E-town scoreless the last 2:05 after
Ethan DuBois' free throws gave the Jays a one-point lead, 34-33.
The Blue Jays led by as many as five points three different times through the opening 20 minutes. A DuBois foul shot had it 13-5 at 13:53 of the first half. A little less than two minutes later, after Juniata had tied it at 13-13, a three by Pastore and a jumper by
Bryce Greene on back-to-back possessions made it five once again, 18-13. Later in the first half, DuBois made it 25-20 after another trip to the charity stripe.
It was a one possession game the rest of the first half until Hall and Martinazzi's layups in the final moments.
A 10-0 run over a four minute span by the Eagles put them up by 12, 52-40. Greene stopped a scoreless drought, but Caidon Owen came down the next trip and buried a three to put it right back at 13, 55-42, with 13:21 remaining in regulation. The hot shooting continued for Juniata, who shot 14-for-23 in the second half and hit 18-of-24 free throw attempts.
E-town hit five treys in the second half, but Juniata's hot-handed shooting from the field and the foul line did not allow the Jays to get back into single digits.
10 of Pastore's team-high 18 points came out of the locker room at the half. Berry added eight second-half points for E-town. He and senior teammate
Matt Thomas were the only players to reach double figures for Elizabethtown. Hall led five in double digits for Juniata with 18 on 8-for-10 shooting.
Elizabethtown will host Moravian for Senior Day on Saturday, February 16, at 4 p.m.
