Field hockey held goalless in 2-0 loss at York (Pa.)

YORK (Pa.) -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team's offense was held to just five shots in the game as the Spartans scored twice to blank the Blue Jays, 2-0, Wednesday night at Kinsley Field. Madeline Kachel made seven saves for E-town.

York (Pa.) (7-5) had a pair of chances later in the opening quarter, but Kachel stopped both attempts. Abby Piotrowski lobbed a shot in on goal and the freshman goalie swatted it away.

The Spartans grabbed the lead a little over five minutes into the second quarter after an insert from Meghan Heary. Amanda Boclair's pass toward the goal was tipped in by Mya Gerena for the opening goal of the game. YCP led 1-0 at the half.

Elizabethtown (3-8) threatened early in the third as a defensive save from Hayley Taylor was required on Grace Hardy's scoring opportunity 1:38 into the quarter. The chance came after Olivia Beachley inserted one of E-town's three penalty corners in the third stanza.

York scored later in the fourth as Dana Meehling's sixth of the season provided the insurance tally.

The field hockey team will host Drew on Saturday, October 12, at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference matchup at Wolf Field.
