Blue Jays go off in rout of Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Bryce Greene, Connor Moffatt, and Michael Pastore each put up at least 15 points for the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team and did not allow a double-digit scorer for Juniata in the Blue Jays' 70-43 win over the Eagles Wednesday night at Thompson Gymnasium. The 43 points are the fewest E-town has given up this season and the second time in three games the opposition has not reached 50 points.

Elizabethtown (9-8, 4-3 Landmark) was hot from the start of the game, hitting on eight of its first 11 field goal attempts. Pastore turned Moffatt's steal on the first defensive possession of the game for E-town into two points at the other end with a good jumper. Ethan DuBois assisted on the first of Greene's three treys that put the Jays ahead 5-0 in the first minute and a half.

Nicholas Albert drained a three for Juniata (7-11, 1-6 Landmark), but a 9-0 by Elizabethtown put the home team ahead by 11 by 14:46 of the first half. That run was capped off by Greene's jumper.

The Eagles could never recover from the early deficit as E-town shot 60 percent in the first half (18-for-30). Green and Pastore each knocked down a pair of threes and were both in double figures by halftime. Pastore led the way in the opening half with a team-high 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Greene added 10 and Matt Thomas was effective down low with seven points and four rebounds.

Moffatt got going in the second half, hitting four of his five shots for 11 second-half points, as the Blue Jays' 24-point lead blossomed to as many as 35.

Juniata shot better percentage wise in the second half, but with the three-ball not falling, the Eagles struggled to take any sort of bite out of Elizabethtown's advantage. The Blue Jays also held leading scorer Brandon Martinazzi to eight points and no Juniata player recorded double-digit points.

Tyler Rinehimer, Brody Baker, Josh Christ, Jalil Pines-Elliott, Jake DuBois, Hugh McLaughlin III, and Aidan Trynosky each got some run for the Blue Jays with the game out of hand to provide the starters some rest throughout the second half and to end the game. Rinehimer had four points and four rebounds in a season-high nine minutes off the bench.

Greene had a game-high 17 points, Moffatt added 16 and seven boards, and Pastore finished with 15. Each of the three accounted for all nine E-town makes from beyond the arc with three apiece. John Kelly had a team-high nine points for the Eagles.

Elizabethtown is on the road at Scranton on Saturday, January 26, at 4 p.m.
