Baseball holds off Immaculata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A four-run fourth inning and the effective relief pitching of Tyler Dunbar helped the Elizabethtown College baseball team take down Immaculata Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. Dunbar did not give up a run and E-town outscored the Mighty Macs 7-2 over the final five innings to secure a 9-7 win.

Brad Misialek's only hit of the game came in the top of the first when he singled in Justin Dempsey to give Immaculata (5-11) a 1-0 lead. Colby Smith doubled the left center the next half inning to score Derek Manning, which tied things up at 1-1.

The Mighty Macs came right back with a run in the second as Pat Devenney doubled down the right field line. Cam Delisle scored on the play to return the lead back to IU, 2-1.

Elizabethtown was back even in the bottom half of the second on Riley McGinley's sac fly RBI that plated Mike Christy.

A three-run third for Immaculata put a bit of distance between themselves and the Blue Jays. Richard Fontanillas triple to left center to drive in two runs. Delisle recorded an RBI on a groundout to short. IU led 5-2 after three innings.

Brennan Snyder cranked a home run to left field in the fourth to get things started for the Jays. It was his second of the season and second in as many games. JT Thompson drove in James Kantner from third to bring E-town within a run at 5-4. Smith drew a bases loaded walk, still in the fourth, to tie the game. Nick Lorenz hit a ball toward the gap between first and second base. The first baseman made a diving attempt at the ball and knocked it down, but couldn't get the ball to the pitcher covering first to get the out. McGinley scored on the play to give EC a 6-5 lead heading into the fifth.

Dunbar, who came in for starter Joseph Sarich, pitched four innings of scoreless ball, striking out one and scattering four hits.

Elizabethtown held a 9-5 lead going into the top of the ninth, but Immaculata wasn't going down easily. Chris Szekeres, who pinch hit and filled in at third, knocked in two runs to cut the deficit to two for the Mighty Macs. Anthony Cameron was called upon to get the final two outs of the inning with a pair of runners in scoring position and the go-ahead run at the plate.

Cameron got a swinging strikeout for the second out of the inning and induced a fly out to Manning in center field to end the game. Cameron registered his first save of the season after closing out the game.

The Blue Jays will play their doubleheader at Catholic tomorrow, Friday, April 6, to beat out the impending winter weather approaching Friday night into Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader tomorrow at Catholic is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
