Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Baker surpasses 50-goal mark in loss at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Madelyn Baker's career season continued on Wednesday at Moravian, though her offense wasn't enough to get the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team past Moravian. Baker recorded six goals for the second time this season and had a team-high seven points in an 18-11 loss to the Greyhounds.

Baker, who reached 100 career points this past weekend at Scranton, had a hat trick in 5:11 that had Elizabethtown (6-8, 2-3 Landmark) ahead 3-1. Kate Ziegler added the first of her three nearly three minutes later and E-town was up by as many as three early on.

Liz Bill and Jillian Picciuto helped Moravian (10-3, 4-1 Landmark) keep pace with the Blue Jays. Bill's 52nd of the year and fourth of the game made it 6-5 E-town with 11:50 to go in the first half. 19 seconds later, Danielle Sullivan evened the game up at 6-6.

Carly Thompson assisted on Ziegler's second of the day, a man-up tally, that put Elizabethtown back in front by a goal with 10:15 left. From there, there weren't any goals scored over almost a nine-minute span as the first-half clock wound down. Abby Kopytko had four of her 10 saves in that span. The Greyhounds did tie the game with 1:17 left before the half. The game was tied 7-7 at the break.

The teams traded goals to start the second half, started off by Carly Thompson's 37th of the season. After Moravian tied, Baker got her lone assist of the game on Ziegler's third of the day and 33rd of the year to put E-town back up by a score, 9-8.

Moravian scored the next six goals to go ahead by five, 14-9, with 8:49 left in the game. Baker got one of those back with her fifth of the game, but the Greyhounds' surge in the second half was too much and the Jays' attack couldn't overcome the deficit.

Baker led the way with her six goals and continued her 14-game goal-scoring streak. Moravian held the Thompson twins to a combined four points to really disrupt the offense. Ziegler registered her ninth hat trick of the season in the game.

Elizabethtown heads to Juniata on Saturday, April 21, at 1 p.m.
