Baseball stymied by Muhlenberg

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A five-run first gave Muhlenberg an immediate edge over the Elizabethtown College baseball team in Wednesday's non-conference matchup at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. The Mules had a shutout going until E-town broke it up in the ninth inning with the final score being 10-2.

A three-run double by Jon Capra cleared the bases for Muhlenberg (12-16) in the top of the first. The Mules tacked on another two runs and led 5-0 after the first.

Alec Andrews held Elizabethtown (9-14) in check. The Blue Jays, coming off a 17-run, 20-hit performance a day earlier at Lebanon Valley, were held to just two by Andrews before Isaac Spiegel took over in the seventh.

Anthony Knight extended his hit streak to 12 games with a two-out single to left center in the third. He had E-town's only hit until Mike Christy drilled a base hit up the middle.

Dylan Everly came in to the game in the top of the ninth in left field and then led off the bottom half of the frame with a double to center field. James Kantner, a pinch-hitter in the seventh, drove in Everly from third to break up the combined shutout bid. Andrew Coleman singled in Doug Hook to make it 10-2. Spiegel got a fly ball to center field to end the game with two men on and one in scoring position. He earned his first save of the season.

Elizabethtown makes up its game from earlier this week with Albright tomorrow at 4 p.m.
