No. 18 Shenandoah pulls away from E-town late

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College baseball team got off to a quick start on Wednesday over nationally-ranked Shenandoah, but the Hornets showed their mettle to come back and take the lead and pull away late from the Blue Jays in a 13-5 non-conference win for SU.

Braden Stinar got out of the first inning after starting up the double play. Brennan Snyder and Mike Christy each drove in a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first to put Elizabethtown (7-13) up 4-0. Snyder doubled to left center with Anthony Knight and Colby Smith on. Christy brought home Derek Manning and Snyder.

Shenandoah (22-6) got three runs back in the second, added two more in the third, and tacked on another pair of runs in the fourth. E-town had tied it at 5-5 in the third on James Kantner's RBI ground out before SU jumped back ahead 7-5.

The game held at 7-5 until the eighth inning when the Hornets put up seven hits and posted five runs to break away from the Blue Jays. Seth Comer held Elizabethtown scoreless over his 3.2 innings to earn the save, his first.

Knight and Christy each had three hits for the Jays. Manning and Kantner also had multi-hit efforts. Gerard DePhillips settled in and wound up pitching 5.1 innings to secure his fourth win of the year.

Elizabethtown faces Lancaster Bible on the road tomorrow, Thursday, April 12, at 4 p.m.
