Albright survives against women's lacrosse

READING, Pa. -- Katie Thompson became the eighth player in program history to reach 200 career points on Wednesday, but her six-point effort came in a close loss at Albright as the Lions survived against the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team. Kate Ziegler and Madelyn Baker each had hat tricks for the Blue Jays, who fell 14-11.

Wednesday's non-conference game between the Blue Jays and Lions went wire-to-wire as neither side led by more than two goals until Albright (8-4) took a 13-10 lead with 6:25 to go in regulation.

Elizabethtown (6-6) was down 2-0 through six minutes of play, but Ziegler's first of three put the Jays on the board. Emily Garvin (14) and Baker made it three straight goals for E-town, who took a 3-2 lead with 20:56 left in the opening half.

The Lions tied and then retook the lead before Baker's second tied it for the second time. Albright and Elizabethtown alternated goals over the final 13 minutes and the Lions took an 8-7 lead into halftime.

Down two once again, Ziegler recorded two in a row for the Blue Jays to level the game at 9-9 with 23:08 remaining. Carly Thompson added her 30th of the year to push E-town in front by a goal less than a minute after Ziegler completed her hat trick.

Albright responded, though, with five straight goals to pull ahead by four, 14-10, with 4:08 showing on the clock. Katie Thompson got a goal back for the Jays with 3:18 to go, but it would be the final goal of the game for EC.

The Lions finished with a plus-one advantage in shots, 35-34, while E-town had 26 shots on goal to Albright's 23. Abby Kopytko made nine saves in goal for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown is on the road Saturday, April 14, at Scranton, for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference matchup.
