Fitzgerald named Landmark Men's Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. -- Tommy Fitzgerald has been a versatile member of the Elizabethtown College men's track and field team since joining the program as a freshman. Fitzgerald is a nine-time All-Landmark track and field performer and honor roll student. On Wednesday, he was named the Landmark Conference's Men's Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete.

In his very first track and field championship meet, the Glenmoore, Pa. native reached the podium three times for three races and won a pair of medals. Fitzgerald won bronze as a part of the distance medley relay team that year, was the runner-up and silver medalist in the 800m, and placed fourth as a member of the 4x400m relay.

As a sophomore, he experience his first taste of indoor gold with medals on the winning DMR and 4x400m relay teams. He earned his second straight silver in the 800m as well.

Fitzgerald finished first in a pair of events for the second consecutive indoor championship meet, this time grabbing the gold in the 800m in his third attempt indoors and also running a leg on the winning 4x400. His third time on the podium at the meet was for the mile.

The senior ended his indoor career with his seventh and final All-Landmark performance, a gold medal in the 4x400m. He also won two bronzes, one in the 800m and the other in the distance medley relay as Elizabethtown finished second at the Landmark Indoor Championships for the first time in 2018.

Fitzgerald has held over a 3.5 cumulative GPA as an accounting major at Elizabethtown and is a two-time Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll selection. He has also helped the men's track and field program to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team status all four years.

It is the second straight men's indoor senior scholar athlete for the Blue Jays (Andrew Lesko, 2017).
