CHESTER, Pa. -- Kirsten Navich and
Will Inglis each came close to school records for the Elizabethtown College men's and women's track & field team on Monday. The Blue Jays had a few athletes in action at the Widener Final Qualifier.
Navich came within .12 seconds of tying, .13 seconds of breaking, the 400-meter hurdles record. She set a new personal best and took fifth in the event Monday afternoon with a time of 1:02.41. Navich was Elizabethtown's top place finisher at the meet.
In the second heat of the men's 800 meters, Inglis dropped nearly two seconds off his time. He came through his first lap in 54.11 before splitting 56.71 on lap two to finish in 1:50.82, a little under half a second from Matt Rever's program record. Inglis moved from seventh to fourth all-time.
Andrew Reice ran 1:56.35 in his section.
Khaliq Poles and
Joey Walko also placed for the Blue Jays. Poles ran 11.24 in the 100-meter prelims to qualify for the final. There, he lowered his time to 11.17 to take sixth. Walko threw 49.20m (161'5") on his final attempt in the hammer throw to take seventh.
Gabe Sczesniak set a new personal best in the 400 meter hurdles, lowering his time to 56.30 and jumping up to sixth all-time.
The track & field teams will travel to Ursinus for the upcoming AARTFC Outdoor Championships in Collegeville, Pa. spanning May 13-14.
